UP Equifest 2008 NAN Qualifying Breyer Model Horse Halter Show Rules

Halter Class Rules

1. Three Horse per class limit per exhibitor in every class.

2. Each horse may only show in one class. NO cross entering is allowed.

3. All horses entered in the show must be tagged. Tags should be displayed with side A up. Tags placed with side B up once the classes close & judging begins, will be disqualified.

  • a. Side A: Horse's Name, breed & gender
  • b. Side B: Horse Owner's Name

    4. Tippy or breakable models may be displayed on the judging table on their sides on an appropriately sized towel or felt. Owner must be on hand to turn the model over at the judge's request.

    5. Make sure your models are well dusted or bathed on show day. The condition of the horse galls within the judging criteria, especially in large classes with entries of equal quality.

    6. Once a class has been called, there will be a set time allowed to place models on the judging table. There will be a 5 minute maximum between halter classes. NO exceptions.

    7. Once a class has been judged, all horses are to be removed from the table immediately. All ribbon winning horses may be moved to a side table set up for taking photos.

    8. Any horses left on the judging table will be removed to the Pony Pound. The owner may then collect them after paying a $1.00 per horse fee.

    9. While judging is in progress, please respect the judge by staying away until he/she is finished judging the class. If you have questions, please wait until after the class has finished, at a break, or after the show.

    Performance Rules

    1. Only a horse or other equine may earn NAN qualification. No performance entries are allowed with cattle or other animals as the named/tagged entry. These animals can be props for the horse entrant.

    2. No team entries can jointly or as a group win a NAN qualification. In classes where more than one horse is involved(multi-horse hitches, team roping, steer wrestling, etc.) the entrant must tag just one of the horses - all others are considered props.

    Sportsmanship Rules

    1. DO NOT TOUCH anyone else's models. You must be given direct permission from the owner of the model before you touch these items. A lot of work, time, & money go into these items. We welcome you to browse & look at other's tables, but please, no touching! Parents---please watch your children. Thank you.

    2. Please use common sense & care when arranging your horses on your tables, the judging tables, or while walking through the aisles. The U. P. Equifest is not liable for any damage to horses or other equipment.

    3. Due to fire safety rules & model horse safety, the aisles between tables must be kept clear. Travel containers must be stored under your table, in your cars, in designated areas by the show staff or in areas specifically approved in advance by the show chairman.

    4. Please remember that judging is a subjective art. Different judges may look at the same class and come up with different conclusions with both being correct. It is merely a matter of opinion. All judge's decisions are considered final.

    5. Please remember that the judges give their time & energy so that you can exhibit your horses at a local show. Whether you agree or disagree with a judge's decision, please keep any negative comments to yourself or out of the show hall. In a close room, words may travel further than you may expect. Judges have ears & feelings just as you do. Please give them the respect & courtesy they deserve.

    Judge's Rules

    1. Judges will not show in the division they are judging.

    2. Judges who enter will not be allowed to actively show their own entries while judging. If a judge enters the show, she/he may set up their table prior to the start of judging. However, they MAY NOT leave the judging area to put their horses in their classes. They may have a friend, family member, etc...., manage their entries once the judging process begins. Once the judge's duties have been completed, he/she may return to their table and show their horses.

    3. Judges will examine all horses in a respective class before any choices are made regarding placements.

    4. Judges will not flip tags at any time during the judging process. Ribbons will be placed next to the class winners and placers. Tags will then be flipped only for the purpose of recording placements. Once tags are flipped, no ribbons, NAN cards or placements can be changed.

    5. Judges will not hold up any classes. Once a class is closed and judging has begun, no horses may be added to that class. Each class will be announced several times before closing. Exhibitors are solely responsible for getting their horses to the ring on time.

    6. Judges, at their own descretion, may disqualify any Original Finish(OF) horse they fell has been noticeably restored. The exhibitor has the right to file a protest at that time which will be decided by a panel of judges and/or show staff.

    NAMHSA & NAN INFORMATION

The North American Model Horse Shows Association(NAMHSA) holds the North American Nationals(NAN) in Lexington, KY in odd-numbered years and in a variable alternate location in even-numbered years.

A model horse earns qualification to compete at the NAN by winning a first or second place in a NAMHSA approved open class at a NAMHSA member show. This qualification enables a horse to enter one of the next two NAN shows. For each qualification earned, a horse receives a ticket which is their proof of the qualifications and must be submitted when entering a NAN show.

There will also be four (4) Collectability Classes. These classes will be for OF Decorator, Woodgrain, Pearl, and Other. Models entered in these classes will be judged solely on their collectability or rarity and will be counted as NAN qualifiers. The NAN show offers separate halter classes for these types of models, if entries warrant them. There is a special box on the NAN entry form to note if a model is to be placed in a collectable class rather than breed.
